1. Purpose of This Policy
The AntiqList Buyer Protection / Buyer Safety Policy provides guidance and safeguards designed to help buyers use the AntiqList marketplace more safely and responsibly.
AntiqList connects buyers and sellers through an online marketplace and classified-listing platform.
Unless expressly stated otherwise for a particular service, AntiqList is not the seller, owner, possessor, authenticator, appraiser, shipper, or manufacturer of items listed by users.
This Policy does not create a guarantee that every transaction, seller, item, payment, delivery, or listing will be successful or risk-free.
Nothing in this Policy limits any mandatory rights or protections that cannot lawfully be excluded under applicable law.
2. Before You Buy
Buyers should conduct reasonable due diligence before purchasing an antique, collectible, historical object, or other item.
Before committing to a purchase, buyers should consider:
The seller's identity and available information.
The seller's transaction history where available.
The item's description.
Photographs.
Condition.
Dimensions.
Materials.
Claimed age.
Claimed origin.
Provenance.
Authentication information.
Restoration or repair history.
Shipping arrangements.
Return or cancellation terms.
Applicable taxes and customs requirements.
Any relevant legal restrictions.
Buyers should ask questions when important information is unclear.
3. Authenticity and Antique Status
Antiques and collectibles can be difficult to authenticate, particularly where age, provenance, restoration, attribution, or rarity materially affects value.
Buyers should not assume that:
An item is authentic simply because it is listed on AntiqList.
An item is antique merely because the listing title uses the word "antique."
A seller's description constitutes an independent expert appraisal.
A photograph proves authenticity.
A certificate is automatically genuine.
A stated valuation represents the actual market value.
Where authenticity is important, buyers should request appropriate supporting information and, where appropriate, obtain independent professional advice.
4. Provenance
Provenance may be important when purchasing historical or culturally significant objects.
Buyers should consider asking sellers for available evidence such as:
Previous purchase records.
Auction records.
Ownership history.
Certificates.
Expert reports.
Export or import documentation.
Museum or exhibition records.
Other relevant historical documentation.
A seller's statement regarding provenance should not automatically be treated as independently verified by AntiqList.
5. High-Value Purchases
For expensive or historically significant items, buyers should consider additional due diligence before completing a transaction.
Depending on the item, this may include:
Independent authentication.
Professional appraisal.
Specialist examination.
Provenance research.
Verification of certificates.
Verification of auction records.
Verification of ownership.
Verification of export/import documentation.
For particularly valuable items, buyers may wish to obtain professional legal, customs, tax, conservation, or specialist advice.
6. Communication With Sellers
Where possible, buyers should keep material transaction communications within AntiqList's available communication systems.
Written communication can help establish what was discussed regarding:
Item condition.
Authenticity.
Price.
Delivery.
Restoration.
Provenance.
Included accessories.
Returns.
Other important transaction terms.
Buyers should be cautious if a seller attempts to move communication immediately to another platform or refuses to provide basic information about the item.
7. Payment Safety
Buyers should use payment methods and payment services offered or recommended by AntiqList where available.
Buyers should be cautious about requests to:
Send money to an unrelated third party.
Use unusual payment methods.
Send cryptocurrency where it is not an agreed payment method.
Make unexplained additional payments.
Pay outside the agreed transaction process.
Send payment before receiving basic transaction information.
Provide banking credentials or security codes.
AntiqList will not ask users to disclose passwords, authentication codes, or unnecessary payment credentials through ordinary marketplace communications.
8. Off-Platform Transactions
Users may communicate independently of AntiqList, but buyers should understand the risks of completing transactions outside AntiqList's systems.
Unless expressly stated otherwise:
AntiqList is not a party to the buyer-seller contract.
AntiqList does not process or hold the payment.
AntiqList does not guarantee the transaction.
AntiqList may not be able to provide assistance with an off-platform transaction.
Platform-based protections may not apply.
Moving a transaction outside AntiqList may significantly reduce the information available to investigate a dispute.
9. Seller Verification
Where AntiqList provides seller verification, verification badges, business information, or similar indicators, buyers should understand what the particular verification represents.
Verification of an account or identity does not necessarily mean that:
Every listing is authentic.
Every item is legally owned.
Every description is accurate.
Every transaction is risk-free.
AntiqList guarantees the seller.
Buyers should continue to conduct reasonable due diligence.
10. Warning Signs of Fraud
Buyers should exercise additional caution where a listing or seller displays warning signs such as:
A price substantially below apparent market value without a reasonable explanation.
Pressure to pay immediately.
Refusal to answer reasonable questions.
Refusal to provide additional photographs.
Inconsistent descriptions.
Unclear ownership.
Suspicious provenance.
Fake-looking certificates.
Claims of guaranteed investment returns.
Requests to avoid normal payment procedures.
Requests for unnecessary personal information.
Attempts to move the transaction off-platform immediately.
Repeated changes to payment details.
Pressure to use an unrelated payment account.
A combination of warning signs may indicate elevated risk.
11. Suspicious Listings
If a buyer believes that a listing may involve:
Fraud.
Counterfeit goods.
Stolen property.
Fake provenance.
Fake authentication.
Illegal archaeological objects.
Illegal cultural property.
Prohibited materials.
Misleading information.
the buyer should report the listing to AntiqList.
AntiqList may review reported content and take action where appropriate.
12. Reporting a Listing
Reports should contain enough information to help AntiqList understand the concern.
Where possible, buyers should provide:
Listing information.
The nature of the concern.
Relevant communications.
Photographs or other evidence where appropriate.
Transaction information where relevant.
Users should not make knowingly false or malicious reports.
13. Item Condition
Buyers should carefully review the condition description before purchasing.
Antique and vintage items may naturally contain:
Wear.
Scratches.
Cracks.
Repairs.
Restoration.
Missing components.
Patina.
Discoloration.
Structural changes.
Previous modifications.
Buyers should ask the seller for clarification where the condition is unclear.

Buyers should request additional photographs where necessary, particularly for:
Signatures.
Maker's marks.
Serial numbers.
Labels.

Repairs.
Reverse sides.

Estimated delivery time.
Shipping cost.
Insurance.
Tracking.
Packaging.
International shipping restrictions.
Customs requirements.
Import duties and taxes.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, AntiqList does not guarantee delivery dates or shipping outcomes for transactions arranged directly between users.

International purchases may involve additional legal and financial requirements.
Buyers may be responsible for:
Import duties.
Customs charges.
Taxes.
Import permits.
Cultural property requirements.
Wildlife-related restrictions.
Shipping restrictions.
Customs declarations.
An item that may legally be sold in one country may not be legally imported into another country.
Buyers should verify the requirements of the destination jurisdiction before purchasing.

Additional caution is recommended when purchasing:
Archaeological objects.
Ancient artifacts.
Religious objects.
Historical manuscripts.
Ancient coins.
Archaeological ceramics.
Sculptures.
Objects originating from excavation.
Other culturally significant materials.
Buyers should consider provenance and legal export/import documentation where applicable.
The fact that an item is described as an "antique" does not establish that its transfer across borders is lawful.
18. Protected Wildlife Materials
Buyers should exercise particular caution when an antique or collectible contains:
Ivory.
Tortoiseshell.
Protected animal skins.
Coral.
Feathers.
Horns.
Bones.
Other wildlife-derived materials.
The sale, possession, transportation, import, or export of such materials may be regulated.
Buyers are responsible for checking applicable laws before completing a transaction.
19. Weapons and Historical Weapons
Historical and collectible weapons may be subject to legal restrictions.
Before purchasing such an item, buyers should verify:
Whether possession is lawful.
Whether purchase is lawful.
Whether shipment is permitted.
Whether import permits are required.
Whether registration is required.
Whether the item falls within a regulated category.
Calling an item "antique" or "historical" does not automatically exempt it from applicable weapons laws.
20. Receiving Your Item
Upon delivery, buyers should inspect the item as soon as reasonably possible.
Where appropriate, buyers should check:
Packaging condition.
Visible damage.
Item identity.
Condition.
Accessories.
Marks or signatures.
Major discrepancies from the listing.
Signs of tampering.
For expensive or fragile items, buyers may wish to document the opening and inspection process.
21. Item Does Not Match the Listing
If an item materially differs from the seller's description, buyers should first contact the seller and attempt to resolve the matter.
Examples may include:
Different item received.
Material undisclosed damage.
Significant condition differences.
Item represented as authentic but materially different from the description.
Missing components.
Material differences in size or specifications.
Significant discrepancies regarding provenance or documentation.
Where appropriate, buyers should retain photographs and relevant communications.
22. Damaged Deliveries
If an item arrives damaged, buyers should:
Photograph the packaging before disposal.
Photograph the damage clearly.
Keep the packaging and shipping materials where reasonably possible.
Record the delivery date.
Contact the seller promptly.
Contact the shipping provider where appropriate.
Follow any applicable claim procedures.
AntiqList may request relevant information where it is involved in an applicable marketplace support process.
23. Returns, Cancellations, and Refunds
Return, cancellation, and refund rights may depend on:
The seller's status.
The transaction method.
The applicable law.
The item.
The seller's stated terms.
Whether mandatory consumer rights apply.
Whether AntiqList provides a specific transaction service.
Buyers should review the applicable listing terms and the AntiqList Refund & Cancellation Policy before completing a purchase.
Nothing in this Policy removes mandatory statutory consumer rights.
24. Buyer Disputes
If a transaction problem occurs, buyers should generally:
Contact the seller.
Clearly explain the problem.
Provide relevant evidence.
Allow reasonable opportunity for the seller to respond.
Contact AntiqList where an applicable marketplace support process exists.
Follow any applicable dispute-resolution procedure.
AntiqList may assist with platform-related issues where appropriate, but it does not automatically adjudicate every buyer-seller dispute.
25. Evidence and Documentation
Buyers should retain relevant transaction records, including where available:
Listing screenshots or records.
Seller communications.
Payment confirmations.
Invoices.
Shipping information.
Tracking information.
Photographs.
Certificates.
Provenance documentation.
Return communications.
Such information may be useful when resolving a dispute or reporting suspected fraud.

Buyers are responsible for:
Reviewing listings carefully.
Asking reasonable questions.
Conducting appropriate due diligence.
Checking applicable legal restrictions.
Understanding shipping and customs requirements.
Using secure payment methods.
Keeping transaction records.
Reporting suspicious activity.
Complying with applicable laws.
AntiqList cannot conduct individualized due diligence on every purchase made through the marketplace.
27. AntiqList's Role in Buyer Protection
AntiqList may provide tools, policies, reporting mechanisms, moderation, account controls, and other marketplace safety measures.
However, unless expressly stated otherwise, AntiqList does not guarantee:
The authenticity of an item.
The accuracy of every seller statement.
The legality of every item.
The seller's ownership.
The quality or condition of an item.
Delivery.
Payment completion.
A refund.
A successful dispute outcome.
Nothing in this section limits rights or obligations that cannot legally be excluded.
28. Marketplace Monitoring
AntiqList may monitor marketplace activity using automated systems, manual review, reports, or other reasonable measures.
Where appropriate, AntiqList may:
Investigate suspicious listings.
Restrict or remove listings.
Suspend accounts.
Request additional information.
Restrict marketplace functionality.
Preserve relevant information where legally permitted or required.
Cooperate with competent authorities where appropriate.
Monitoring does not mean that every listing or transaction is individually verified.
29. Emergency and Illegal Activity
If a buyer believes that a transaction involves an immediate safety threat, serious criminal activity, stolen property, or other potentially unlawful conduct, the buyer should consider contacting the appropriate competent authorities.
AntiqList may cooperate with competent authorities where legally required or appropriate.
AntiqList should not be treated as an emergency service.
30. Privacy and Personal Information
Buyers should avoid sharing unnecessary personal information with sellers.
Do not provide:
Passwords.
Authentication codes.
Banking credentials.
Unnecessary identity information.
Private financial information.
Other sensitive information unless legally necessary and handled through an appropriate secure process.
Users should also respect the privacy of other marketplace participants.
Additional information is available in the AntiqList Privacy Policy.
31. Children and Minors
Users must comply with the age and eligibility requirements contained in the AntiqList Terms of Use.
Where a purchase involves a minor, appropriate parental or guardian involvement may be required depending on applicable law and the circumstances of the transaction.
32. No Guarantee of Risk-Free Transactions
Online marketplaces involve inherent risks.
Although AntiqList may implement measures intended to reduce fraud, prohibited activity, and unsafe listings, no online marketplace can guarantee that every listing, seller, buyer, payment, shipment, or transaction will be free from risk.
Buyers should exercise reasonable caution and conduct appropriate due diligence.
33. Fraud Prevention Cooperation
AntiqList may cooperate with payment providers, shipping providers, service providers, rights holders, law enforcement agencies, regulators, or other competent parties where legally permitted or required.
Information may be preserved or disclosed where necessary to:
Prevent fraud.
Investigate suspected illegal activity.
Protect users.
Protect AntiqList.
Comply with legal obligations.
Respond to lawful requests.
Any handling of personal information remains subject to applicable privacy laws and the AntiqList Privacy Policy.

If a seller violates AntiqList policies, AntiqList may take action including:
Listing removal.
Listing restriction.
Account warning.
Temporary suspension.
Permanent account termination.
Marketplace restrictions.
Investigation.
Referral to competent authorities where appropriate.
These actions do not necessarily determine the outcome of a private dispute between a buyer and seller.

Changes in applicable law.
Changes in marketplace functionality.
New fraud risks.
