This Buyer Code of Conduct establishes the standards expected of users who browse, communicate, negotiate, purchase, or otherwise interact with sellers and listings on AntiqList.
The purpose of this Code is to promote safe, honest, respectful, and lawful participation in the AntiqList marketplace.
2. Scope
This Code applies to all buyers and prospective buyers using AntiqList, including users who:
browse listings;
contact sellers;
make offers;
negotiate prices;
purchase items;
arrange shipping or collection;
leave reviews;
report listings; or
participate in other marketplace activities.
3. Compliance With AntiqList Policies
Buyers must comply with this Code and all other applicable AntiqList policies, terms, and rules.
These may include the Terms of Use, Buyer Protection / Buyer Safety Policy, Payment Policy, Shipping & Delivery Policy, Reviews & Ratings Policy, and Safety & Fraud Prevention Policy.
4. Honest Account Information
Buyers must provide accurate information when creating or maintaining an AntiqList account.
Users must not impersonate another person or create accounts using false identities.
5. Account Security
Buyers are responsible for protecting their account credentials and authentication information.
Users should immediately report suspected unauthorized access or account compromise.
6. One Person, One Legitimate Account
Buyers must not create multiple accounts for the purpose of:
avoiding restrictions;
manipulating reviews;
abusing promotions;
misleading sellers;
circumventing marketplace rules; or
obtaining unauthorized benefits.
7. Respectful Communication
Buyers must communicate with sellers respectfully and professionally.
Disagreement concerning price, condition, authenticity, shipping, or other matters does not justify abusive conduct.
8. Harassment
Harassment, intimidation, repeated unwanted contact, stalking, or other abusive behavior toward sellers or other users is prohibited.
9. Threats and Violence
Buyers must not threaten, encourage, or facilitate violence against another person.
Threats involving physical harm may result in immediate account restrictions and, where appropriate, referral to relevant authorities.
10. Extortion and Blackmail
Buyers must not use reviews, complaints, payment disputes, or other marketplace mechanisms to extort money, discounts, goods, services, or other benefits from sellers.
11. Impersonation
Buyers must not impersonate:
sellers;
AntiqList personnel;
experts;
appraisers;
government officials;
law enforcement officers;
payment providers; or
other individuals or organizations.
12. False Statements
Buyers must not knowingly provide false information to AntiqList, sellers, payment providers, shipping providers, or other parties involved in a transaction.
13. Legitimate Offers
Buyers should make genuine offers and purchase commitments.
Repeatedly placing offers or commitments with no intention of completing transactions may constitute marketplace abuse.
14. Price Negotiations
Buyers may negotiate prices where sellers permit negotiation.
Negotiations must remain respectful and must not involve threats, harassment, deception, or manipulation.
15. No Artificial Market Manipulation
Buyers must not coordinate with others to artificially manipulate:
prices;
demand;
listing visibility;
reviews;
seller reputation; or
marketplace activity.
16. No False Purchases
Buyers must not intentionally place orders or purchase items solely to:
disrupt sellers;
create false sales records;
manipulate rankings;
test payment systems without authorization; or
cause financial or operational harm.
17. Authenticity Questions

authenticity;
age;
provenance;
restoration;
condition;
ownership;

previous history.
18. Independent Due Diligence
For valuable, rare, historically significant, or potentially regulated items, buyers should conduct appropriate independent due diligence before purchasing.
This may include obtaining an independent expert opinion or authentication where appropriate.
19. No Assumption of AntiqList Authentication
Buyers must not assume that an item is authentic merely because it appears on AntiqList or because a listing contains an authenticity statement.
AntiqList does not automatically authenticate, appraise, or certify marketplace items.
20. Provenance
Buyers should carefully evaluate provenance information provided by sellers.
Incomplete, unusual, inconsistent, or recently created provenance may warrant additional investigation.
21. Certificates and Documentation
Buyers should independently evaluate certificates, appraisals, receipts, historical documents, photographs, and other supporting materials.

22. Cultural Heritage Items
Buyers must exercise particular caution when considering:
archaeological objects;
ancient artifacts;
historical manuscripts;
religious objects;
archaeological coins;
architectural fragments;
excavation-related objects; or
other cultural heritage materials.

stolen;
unlawfully obtained;
subject to a credible ownership dispute;
looted;
illegally excavated; or
otherwise unlawfully possessed.
24. Protected Wildlife Materials

Users must review the applicable Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy before purchasing unusual, regulated, or potentially restricted goods.
26. Weapons and Military Items
Buyers must comply with all applicable laws concerning weapons, firearms, ammunition, historical weapons, military artifacts, and other regulated objects.
A historical or collectible nature does not automatically remove legal restrictions.
27. Payment Safety
Buyers should use payment methods and procedures authorized or recommended by AntiqList where available.
Users should carefully verify payment instructions before sending money.
28. Fake Payment Requests
Buyers should be cautious of messages claiming to be from AntiqList requesting:
additional payments;
passwords;
payment credentials;
security codes;
cryptocurrency transfers; or
payments to unrelated individuals.
Suspicious communications should be reported.
29. Off-Platform Payments
Buyers should understand that moving a transaction outside AntiqList may reduce available platform protections, records, dispute assistance, or fraud controls.
Users assume additional risks when voluntarily completing transactions outside available AntiqList systems.
30. Payment Confirmation
Buyers must not falsely claim that a payment has been completed.
Fake payment confirmations, altered receipts, or misleading screenshots are prohibited.
31. Chargeback Abuse
Buyers must not misuse chargebacks or payment disputes to obtain goods without paying or to recover money for transactions that were properly completed.
Legitimate payment disputes and consumer rights remain unaffected.
32. Personal Information

Reviews must not be used as a tool for retaliation, extortion, manipulation, or personal attacks.

Buyers must not:
purchase reviews;
create fake reviews;
review products they did not meaningfully experience;
operate accounts for the purpose of generating reviews; or
coordinate artificial review activity.

40. Honest Negative Feedback
Legitimate negative feedback is permitted.
A buyer may honestly describe dissatisfaction concerning an item, transaction, communication, shipping experience, or other genuine marketplace experience.
41. No Defamatory or Abusive Content
Reviews, messages, and reports must not contain unlawful threats, harassment, hate speech, or intentionally abusive content.
42. Transaction Disputes
Buyers should attempt to communicate with sellers in good faith when resolving ordinary transaction issues.
Where a dispute cannot be resolved directly, buyers may use available AntiqList reporting or dispute procedures.
43. Evidence

listing screenshots;
photographs;

Where mandatory consumer rights apply, contractual terms cannot remove those rights.
48. No Abuse of Return Policies
Buyers must not abuse return systems by:
returning unrelated items;
damaging items intentionally;
making fraudulent claims;
using an item and falsely claiming non-delivery; or
otherwise manipulating the return process.
49. Customs and Import Requirements
International buyers are responsible for understanding applicable import restrictions, customs procedures, duties, taxes, permits, and documentation requirements.
50. Cultural Property Import Restrictions
Buyers must not knowingly import cultural property in violation of applicable laws.
51. Accurate Customs Information
Buyers must not request or encourage sellers to:
undervalue goods;
misdescribe goods;
falsely declare gifts;
conceal restricted materials; or
provide false customs information.
52. In-Person Transactions
When meeting a seller for local collection or inspection, buyers should use reasonable safety precautions.
Where appropriate, users should consider meeting in a public location and informing a trusted person of the meeting.
53. Inspection Before Purchase
For high-value transactions, buyers are encouraged to inspect items personally or obtain an appropriate independent inspection when practical.
54. High-Value Purchases
Buyers should exercise additional caution when purchasing expensive or rare items.
Additional verification, authentication, documentation, secure payment arrangements, insurance, or written transaction agreements may be appropriate.
55. No Guaranteed Transaction Safety
AntiqList cannot guarantee that every seller, listing, item, payment, shipment, or transaction is free from fraud or risk.

61. Cooperation With Authorities
Where legally required or appropriate, AntiqList may cooperate with law enforcement, courts, customs authorities, regulators, payment providers, intellectual property rights holders, or other competent authorities.
