1. Purpose of This Policy
This Safety & Fraud Prevention Policy explains the measures, expectations, and procedures that apply to the prevention, detection, reporting, and handling of fraud, scams, abuse, and other safety risks on AntiqList.
Because AntiqList facilitates interactions involving antiques, collectibles, historical objects, artwork, jewelry, and other potentially valuable goods, users should take appropriate precautions before communicating, purchasing, selling, paying, or shipping items.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to all users of AntiqList, including buyers, sellers, visitors, advertisers, professional sellers, businesses, and other persons interacting with the platform.
It applies to activity conducted through AntiqList and, where relevant, activity that originated through AntiqList but is subsequently moved to another communication or payment channel.
3. AntiqList's Role
AntiqList operates as an online marketplace and classified platform intended to facilitate connections between buyers and sellers.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, AntiqList is not the seller, buyer, owner, possessor, authenticator, appraiser, insurer, shipper, or guarantor of any listed item.
AntiqList does not guarantee that every user, listing, payment, communication, or transaction is legitimate or risk-free.
4. User Responsibility for Safety
Users are responsible for exercising reasonable judgment and conducting appropriate due diligence before entering into transactions.
Users should independently evaluate sellers, buyers, listings, prices, documentation, payment requests, shipping arrangements, and other relevant information.
5. Account Creation Safety
Users should provide accurate information when creating an account.
Users must not create accounts using another person's identity, impersonate another person or organization, or provide intentionally misleading information.
6. Password and Authentication Security
Users are responsible for protecting their account credentials.
Users should:
use strong and unique passwords;
avoid sharing passwords;
avoid using the same password across multiple services;
secure the email account associated with AntiqList; and
use additional authentication measures where available.
AntiqList will not normally request a user's password through unsolicited messages.
7. Phishing
Phishing attempts may involve fraudulent emails, messages, websites, advertisements, or communications designed to obtain passwords, payment information, personal information, or account access.
Users should be cautious of unexpected requests for credentials, payment information, verification codes, or urgent action.
8. Fake AntiqList Communications
Fraudsters may attempt to impersonate AntiqList.
Users should be particularly cautious of messages claiming that an account, listing, payment, shipment, or transaction requires immediate payment or verification through an unfamiliar website.
When in doubt, users should independently access AntiqList through their normal trusted method rather than clicking an unsolicited link.
9. Identity Verification
Where AntiqList provides or requires identity or seller verification, users must provide accurate and truthful information.
Verification may reduce certain risks but does not constitute a guarantee that a user is trustworthy, that an item is authentic, or that a transaction will be completed successfully.
10. Fake Sellers
Users should exercise caution when dealing with sellers who:
refuse reasonable questions;
provide inconsistent information;
pressure buyers to pay immediately;
request unusual payment methods;
offer prices substantially below market expectations without a credible explanation;
refuse to provide additional photographs or documentation where appropriate; or
attempt to move communications or payments away from AntiqList without a legitimate reason.
11. Fake Buyers
Sellers should be cautious of buyers who:
send fraudulent payment confirmations;
overpay and request a refund of the difference;
request shipment before payment has actually cleared;
ask sellers to purchase gift cards or other items;
provide suspicious payment instructions;
use stolen payment methods; or
attempt to obtain personal or financial information.
12. Suspicious Listings
A listing may be considered suspicious where information, pricing, photographs, provenance, documentation, ownership claims, or seller behavior raises reasonable concerns.
AntiqList may review, restrict, remove, or otherwise take action regarding suspicious listings.
13. Unrealistic or "Too Good to Be True" Prices
Extremely low prices may be used to attract victims to fraudulent listings.
A low price does not necessarily indicate fraud, but buyers should investigate unusual pricing and verify the item and seller before making payment.
14. Payment Safety
Users should use payment methods appropriate for the transaction and should understand the protections and limitations of the selected payment method.
Users should never assume that a payment request is legitimate merely because it contains AntiqList branding or references a listing.
15. Off-Platform Payments
Moving payments outside AntiqList may increase the risk of fraud and may reduce available protections, records, or dispute mechanisms.
Users should carefully consider the risks before agreeing to off-platform payment arrangements.
16. Bank Transfers
Bank transfers may be difficult or impossible to reverse after completion.
Users should independently verify the recipient's identity and payment details before sending funds.
AntiqList does not guarantee recovery of funds transferred directly between users.
17. Cash and In-Person Payments
Where users agree to meet in person or exchange cash, they do so at their own risk and should take reasonable safety precautions.
Users should avoid carrying unnecessary amounts of cash and should consider using secure, public locations for legitimate exchanges.
18. Third-Party Payment Services
Where third-party payment providers are used, the provider's own terms, security procedures, dispute rules, and refund policies may apply.
AntiqList is not responsible for the operation of independent payment providers.
19. Payment Confirmation Scams
A screenshot, email, text message, or purported receipt is not necessarily proof that payment has been successfully received.
Sellers should independently confirm that funds have actually cleared before releasing an item or arranging shipment.
20. Chargeback and Payment Fraud
Users must not intentionally misuse chargebacks, payment reversals, refund systems, or payment disputes.
Fraudulent or abusive payment activity may result in account restrictions, termination, or referral to relevant payment providers or authorities.
21. High-Value Transactions
Additional caution is recommended for high-value antiques, artwork, jewelry, rare collectibles, historical objects, and other expensive items.
Users may consider obtaining:
independent authentication;
professional appraisal;
provenance documentation;
condition reports;
insurance;
secure shipping; and
appropriate contractual documentation.
22. Independent Verification
For valuable or historically significant items, buyers should consider obtaining independent professional advice before completing a transaction.
AntiqList does not act as an independent authenticator, appraiser, conservator, historian, or legal adviser unless expressly stated otherwise.
23. In-Person Meetings
Users arranging an in-person meeting should consider:
meeting during reasonable hours;
choosing a public or professionally appropriate location;
informing another person about the meeting;
avoiding unnecessary disclosure of home addresses;
inspecting the item before payment where possible; and
leaving the meeting if circumstances appear unsafe.
24. Shipping and Delivery Fraud
Users should be cautious of fraudulent shipping claims, fake courier websites, false tracking information, and requests for unexpected additional payments.
Users should independently verify shipping information whenever possible.
25. Tracking Scams
Fraudsters may provide fake tracking numbers, fake delivery confirmations, or links to fraudulent courier websites.
Users should verify tracking information directly through the relevant carrier's official channels rather than relying solely on links supplied by another party.
26. International Transactions
International transactions may involve additional risks relating to customs, export controls, import restrictions, taxes, duties, cultural heritage laws, sanctions, and documentation requirements.
Users are responsible for complying with applicable laws governing their transactions.
27. Customs and Import/Export Scams
Users should be cautious of unexpected requests for customs payments, release fees, clearance charges, or other payments from unknown persons.
Users should independently verify such requests with the relevant customs authority, carrier, or other legitimate service provider.
28. Authenticity and Provenance Fraud
Fraud involving antiques may include false claims about:
age;
origin;
maker;
artist;
ownership history;
historical association;
rarity;
previous collections;
auction history; or
cultural significance.
Users should independently assess significant claims before relying upon them.
29. Fake Certificates and Documentation
Certificates, invoices, auction records, expert opinions, photographs, provenance documents, and other paperwork may be falsified.
The existence of documentation does not automatically establish authenticity or lawful ownership.
30. Stolen Property
Users must not knowingly buy, sell, advertise, or facilitate transactions involving stolen or unlawfully obtained property.
If a user suspects that an item may be stolen, they should not proceed with the transaction and should report the matter to AntiqList and, where appropriate, relevant authorities.
31. Cultural Heritage and Archaeological Objects
Antiques and historical objects may be subject to cultural heritage, archaeological, ownership, excavation, export, import, or repatriation restrictions.
Users must not use AntiqList to facilitate unlawful trafficking or trade in protected cultural property.
32. Counterfeit and Fake Items
Counterfeit, forged, artificially aged, deceptively altered, or falsely represented items may present significant financial and legal risks.
Users should carefully evaluate authenticity claims and report suspected counterfeit items.
33. Protected Wildlife and Restricted Materials
Certain antique or collectible objects may contain materials derived from protected species or other regulated sources.
Users are responsible for determining whether an item can legally be sold, purchased, transported, imported, or exported.
34. Prohibited and Restricted Items
Users must comply with AntiqList's Prohibited & Restricted Items Policy.
Listings involving prohibited or restricted goods may be removed and may result in account enforcement.
35. Personal Information Safety
Users should avoid unnecessarily sharing sensitive personal information with other users.
This may include:
passwords;
authentication codes;
payment credentials;
government identification numbers;
private financial information;
unnecessary residential information; or
other confidential information.
36. Communication Safety
Users should remain cautious when communicating with unknown persons.
Warning signs may include pressure, threats, urgency, emotional manipulation, secrecy, unusual payment requests, or attempts to bypass normal platform procedures.
37. Harassment, Extortion, and Threats
Threats, blackmail, extortion, harassment, intimidation, and coercive behavior are prohibited.
Users should report serious or threatening conduct promptly.
Where there is an immediate danger to a person's safety, users should contact appropriate emergency services or law enforcement.
38. Social Engineering and Relationship Scams
Fraudsters may establish trust or personal relationships with users before requesting money, valuable items, confidential information, or other assistance.
Users should remain cautious when an online contact unexpectedly requests financial assistance or valuable property.
39. Account Takeover
If a user's account may have been compromised, the user should promptly:
change the account password;
secure the associated email account;
stop suspicious communications;
review recent account activity; and
contact AntiqList where appropriate.
40. Malicious Links and Malware
Users should not open suspicious links, download unknown files, or install software requested by another user without independently verifying the source.
AntiqList does not authorize users to distribute malicious software through the platform.
41. Automated and Bot Abuse
Automated activity intended to manipulate listings, rankings, messages, accounts, reviews, traffic, or other platform functions may be restricted.
AntiqList may take technical or account-level measures against abusive automation.
42. Reporting Suspicious Activity
Users are encouraged to report suspicious listings, accounts, messages, payment requests, scams, or other safety concerns.
Reports may be submitted through available reporting tools or by contacting:
Email: [email protected]
43. Information Helpful in a Fraud Report
Where reasonably available, users should provide:
listing information;
usernames;
relevant dates and times;
screenshots;
transaction information;
suspicious messages;
payment details relevant to the report;
shipping information; and
a description of the suspected activity.
Users should avoid unnecessarily submitting sensitive personal information.
44. Emergency and Criminal Matters
AntiqList is not an emergency response service.
If a situation involves an immediate threat to life, physical safety, or serious criminal activity, users should contact the appropriate emergency services or law enforcement authorities.
45. AntiqList's Possible Safety Measures
Depending on the circumstances, AntiqList may:
investigate activity;
request additional information;
restrict or remove listings;
restrict messaging;
limit account functionality;
temporarily suspend accounts;
terminate accounts;
prevent suspicious transactions where technically possible;
preserve relevant records;
cooperate with payment providers; or
cooperate with competent authorities where legally appropriate.
46. Temporary Safety Restrictions
AntiqList may apply temporary restrictions while investigating suspected fraud, security issues, prohibited activity, or other risks.
Temporary action does not necessarily mean that a legal violation has been conclusively established.
47. Investigations
AntiqList may conduct internal reviews of suspected fraud, abuse, manipulation, account compromise, counterfeit activity, or other violations.
Users may be asked to provide additional information or documentation where reasonably necessary.
48. Cooperation With Payment Providers and Authorities
Where appropriate and legally permitted, AntiqList may cooperate with payment processors, financial institutions, service providers, law enforcement agencies, regulators, courts, or other competent authorities.
49. Preservation of Evidence
AntiqList may preserve relevant account, listing, communication, technical, transaction, or other records where reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or investigation.
50. Limits on User Notification
AntiqList may not always be able to disclose details concerning an investigation, security measure, report, fraud detection method, legal request, or action taken against another user.
This may be necessary to protect users, preserve evidence, prevent further fraud, or comply with legal obligations.
51. No Guarantee of a Fraud-Free Platform
AntiqList uses reasonable measures intended to reduce fraud and safety risks, but no online marketplace can guarantee that every fraudulent activity, malicious account, counterfeit item, scam, or security threat will be detected or prevented.
Users remain responsible for exercising appropriate caution.
52. No Authentication or Financial Guarantee
Safety measures provided by AntiqList do not constitute:
an authenticity guarantee;
an appraisal;
a guarantee of ownership;
a guarantee of lawful provenance;
a payment guarantee;
an insurance policy;
a guarantee of delivery; or
a guarantee that a buyer or seller will perform their obligations.
53. Buyer Safety Checklist
Before purchasing, buyers should consider:
Is the seller's information consistent?
Is the price reasonable?
Are photographs sufficient?
Is provenance credible?
Can authenticity be independently verified?
Are ownership documents available where appropriate?
Is the payment method appropriate?
Are shipping arrangements clear?
Are import/export restrictions relevant?
Does the transaction involve unusual urgency or pressure?
If something appears suspicious, users should stop and investigate before proceeding.
54. Seller Safety Checklist
Before completing a sale, sellers should consider:
Has the payment actually cleared?
Is the buyer's communication consistent?
Is the buyer requesting unusual payment arrangements?
Is the buyer asking for shipment before payment?
Are shipping details reliable?
Are there suspicious refund or overpayment requests?
Are personal details being requested unnecessarily?
Does the transaction comply with applicable laws?
55. International User Safety
Users located outside Türkiye are responsible for understanding the laws applicable to them.
